Drinking Water Hacks – Go Warm / Hot not Cold!
If you haven’t made the switch already, I want to remind you, that’s it’s the ideal time to switch from drinking cold/room temperature water, to our good old warm/hot water.
* Right now, go and get your favourite mug. Boil the kettle and start sipping warm/hot water instead of cold/room temperature water regularly throughout the day.
As many of you already know about this little tip, here’s 3 extra little (hopefully helpful) related tips.
* For those who haven’t been to a seminar or heard about the importance of avoiding cold drinks and favouring warm/hot ones, feel free to check out https://www.healthspeaker.com.au/articles_hotwater.php
1. DON’T CONFUSE THE EFFECTS OF WARM/HOT WATER WITH HERBAL TEAS.
Herbal teas are great, and have specific (usually helpful) effects depending on the exact herbs. However, in terms of straight cleansing, plain water is best (long story).
So a good idea to get the best of both worlds, is to have plain water (don’t forget the good old fresh ginger as well if you need some extra kick) up until lunchtime. Then, if you like your herbal teas (peppermint, chamomile, jasmine or whatever), have them during the afternoon.
2. DON’T ‘REGULARLY’ DRINK IT ‘BOILING HOT’:
This is a big one many long-term hot water drinkers make a mistake with.
Drinking water while it’s still ‘quite hot’ is really only for ‘medicinal’ purposes, on a short-term basis. E.g where you are trying to flush out deep-rooted impurities etc.
* What those familiar with Maharishi Ayurveda™, will know as ‘ama’ (the ‘bad’ stuff).
Drinking ‘boiling’ hot water (that almost burns your tongue), on a regular basis, can actually throw the physiology out of balance as well as leaching minerals from the tissues. It is not advised as part of an ongoing healthy daily routine.
Generally, boil your water, and then let it cool a little bit, where it is hot, but still ‘comfortable’ enough to drink/sip.
Helpful Tip: To know what is a comfortable temperature, you should be able to hold the water in your mouth for a few seconds if you needed to.
3. DON’T FORGET YOUR KIDS:
Just as kids go swimming in freezing of water, and don’t even seem to notice the difference, they also tend to ‘skull’ cold drinks without a care in the world.
While kids will get away with this much more than us adults, it’s still not healthy practice.
A great thing for your kids health (and possibly your medical expenses for them),
is to start getting them in the habit of drinking warmer fluids, particularly in the colder months.
Breast milk is warm (and even when we bottle feed young ones, we ‘warm it first), and there is a very good reason for this. And it shouldn’t stop once kids get a bit older (well, the breast feeding should!!! but not the warming fluids). Cold milk is even worse than cold water!
Anyway, they don’t need to drink hot drinks/hot water (as if they would anyway!!!), but instead of just filling up their water bottle/cup with cold water/juices from the fridge or tap water etc, fill it up half to three-quarters, and then had hot water to it, so that it is warm to drink…or at least takes the ‘chill’ off it (until you brainwash them to like warmer drinks!).
* Do it really gradually and they may not even notice. Or don’t be scared to explain why you are doing it. Kids love to learn, and if it makes sense they are more likely to do it long-term. Yeah right Mark, good try!
Of course they probably won’t do it if you tell them, so tell them that their favourite hero (Superman, Ian Thorpe, Delta Goodrem etc), drinks warm water/milk, and your chances of success will skyrocket.
If you can start your kids of now in such a healthy habit, the benefits to their health and well-being, over their lifetime will be extraordinary.
